Orientation night for Hospitality and Supper Teams, Nov. 6, 2011, 6:30-8:30 PM (pictures)

Hello to All of You,

We have three scheduled meetings in November.  All are on Sundays, at 6:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Bunnell in the Fellowship Hall.

Sunday, November 6, at 6:30 p.m.: Hospitality and Supper
We will discuss formation of teams and team leaders, the new sign-in policies for both volunteers and guests and record keeping of incidents. Because of requirements for grant applications, safety of volunteers and guests and reimbursements, we need more detailed record keeping. Locations and availability of supplies and equipment, keys, safety, and procedures have been changed.  Menus will be discussed and availability of the food cupboard.

Sunday, November 13, at 6:30 p.m.: Overnighters and Rise 'n Shine.
Along with the usual policies and procedures, we will discuss record keeping of incidents, sign-in procedures, safety procedures for guests and volunteers, menus and food availability from our food cupboard.

Sunday, November 20, at 6:30 p.m.:  Alcoholism and drug dependency issues.
We will have a guest speaker who is a counselor and therapist for alcoholic and drug dependant clients.  She will speak on the issues we confront at the shelter, especially with the local guests, and teach us how to view and treat substance dependent guests to maintain both dignity and safety for all.

I am also starting another TEAM: Clean-Up Crew.  I need input and volunteers to help in the mornings after the guests have left to prepare the Hall and the bathrooms for the next opening.  This will alleviate some of the Rise 'n Shine's Team task in the mornings.  If you were to list all this team has to do in the mornings, it takes almost two pages.  Hmmmm.  Something wrong there.

It is important the we all be on the same page as far as procedures and policies. I hope to see you there as we begin the ever-increasing need to supply warm, safe shelter to homeless and those having insufficient heat in their home.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY!! Diane Tomko's program Community Problem Solvers of Flagler Palm Coast High School is having a Homeless Day this Saturday, October 22, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.  at the 600 Bistro at FPCHS.  Attached is a flyer that gives all the information you need.  It is a great way to raise awareness of homelessness and increase assistance to those experiencing homelessness at this time.  I have 5 tickets left that I can sell personally and you can purchase tickets or contact the group at increasinginvolvement@yahoo.comMelody Sivri is in charge.  Make a Difference Day is an incredible way to reach out to our citizens that need support in so many different ways.  Its a good way to spend a few hours.  Supporting these kids tells them a lot about their significance and impact on society.

Thank you!!
